MT-2 (Melanotan II), 10 mg. Melanotan II is a synthetic form of alpha-MSH that produces skin pigmentation. It is unlicensed and largely unstudied, with no approval for medical use in any country.

What is in this vial

Both brands of MT-2 (Melanotan II) here come in the same 10 mg vial, so the choice between them is a choice of manufacturer and price, not of quantity. The powder has no concentration of its own: it is set when you add the water. This vial with 2 ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5 mg per millilitre, and with twice that volume, half as much.

The conversion of an amount into insulin syringe units is worked through in the guide on syringe units, and the rules that change once the powder is dissolved are in storage.

Genheal as the manufacturer

Genheal covers the growth hormone axis more completely than the other two brands and is the only one here supplying the BPC-157 and TB-500 blend and tesamorelin. Its vials carry a code under the hologram and a batch certificate, checked the same way as any other brand in this shop.

What the evidence says

Tested products have shown inconsistent amounts of the substance, so the batch certificate matters. Reports include melanoma, darkening of moles and rhabdomyolysis. The full account, with the sources and the limits, is on the MT-2 (Melanotan II) page, and the background in the guide on the libido and tanning group.

We publish no dosing schedules. Sold as research material, not as a medicine.

Genheal fills melanotan II in 10 mg and also supplies PT-141, the metabolite of this molecule that went the other way and became an approved medicine in the United States. The two sit in the same category here and have very different regulatory histories.

Concentration in this vial

Water added Concentration Per unit on a U-100 syringe
1 ml 10 mg/ml 100 mcg
2 ml 5 mg/ml 50 mcg
5 ml 2 mg/ml 20 mcg

The table is arithmetic and nothing else: it converts the 10 mg in this vial into the concentration you get for a chosen volume of bacteriostatic water. It is not a dosing recommendation, and we publish none.

The same compound is sold here in one other version: Bio-Peptide, 10 mg. The molecule is identical in each; what differs is the manufacturer. Both hold the same amount, so the choice here is the manufacturer and its batch certificate, not the size.

Also from Genheal in this group

Within Libido and tanning, Genheal also supplies PT-141 10 mg.

How melanotan II works

Melanotan II is a synthetic analogue of the melanocortin hormone alpha-MSH. It stimulates MC1 receptors, which drive the production of melanin, and that is where the tanning effect without sun exposure comes from. It also acts on receptors in the central nervous system linked to sexual function, which is why it sits in the libido and tanning group next to PT-141.

Batch quality

Tested Melanotan II products have shown inconsistent amounts of the substance, which is why the batch certificate matters with this molecule more than with most others.

Moles and skin checks

Melanotan II darkens moles as well as the skin. That is not a cosmetic detail: a darker mole is harder to assess, which makes melanoma harder to detect. Anyone with many moles or skin lesions should talk to a doctor before any contact with this molecule. Reported long-term effects include melanoma, darkening and appearance of new moles and nail discolouration.

Preparation and the arithmetic of 10 mg

The Genheal box holds one 1 ml solvent ampoule. A 10 mg vial dissolved in that millilitre gives 10,000 mcg per millilitre, so one unit on an insulin syringe, 0.01 ml, holds as much as 100 mcg. At such a high concentration it is worth adding your own bacteriostatic water: 2 ml gives 50 mcg per unit and 5 ml gives 20 mcg per unit, a much finer scale. Keep the solution in the fridge at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Who this vial is for

You want melanotan II from a manufacturer with a batch certificate and a code under the hologram: this is one of the two versions here, next to Bio-Peptide, 10 mg. You are interested in the related molecule that went through registration as a medicine: that is PT-141.

The older sibling with an approval: what afamelanotide showed

Melanotan II and melanotan I were created in the same laboratory at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Both act on the MC1R receptor on melanocytes and switch them to eumelanin, the brown-black pigment. Melanotan I was given the name afamelanotide and is the only one of the pair to have become a drug.

Feature Melanotan II Afamelanotide (melanotan I)
Structure 7 amino acids closed into a ring the full alpha-MSH chain, linear
Effects beyond the skin also receptors in the brain: erections, yawning, nausea mainly the skin
Status not approved, research material the drug Scenesse in the EU since 22 December 2014
Largest study 3 people, 1996 168 patients in two studies, 2015

Afamelanotide was approved to prevent light reactions in adults with erythropoietic protoporphyria. This is a rare disease in which sunlight causes severe skin pain. In studies in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2015, the drug lengthened the time spent in the sun without pain. In the US part, the median was 69.4 hours against 40.8 hours on placebo.

This is the first evidence that synthetic melanotropin gives the skin real protection from light, not just colour. Melanotan II acts on the same receptor, but it is shorter, stronger and broader in action, so the afamelanotide results do not carry over to it directly.

What dermatologists pay attention to

The New Zealand dermatology resource DermNet describes darkening of existing moles and the appearance of new ones in people using melanotan II. Such changes make it harder for a dermatologist to assess the skin, so it is worth having moles checked by a doctor before starting research and regularly during it. All the tanning studies are gathered in the guide Melanotan 2 and tanning.

Questions

How much MT-2 (Melanotan II) is in this vial?

10 mg of lyophilised powder from Genheal, in one vial.

What concentration does 2 ml of water give?

5 mg per millilitre, which is 50 mcg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe. Other volumes are in the table above.

Is this the same molecule as the Bio-Peptide vial?

Yes. MT-2 (Melanotan II) is the same compound in every vial here, and both hold 10 mg. What differs is the manufacturer and the batch certificate that comes with it.

Verification and delivery

Every vial carries a code under the hologram and comes from a batch with a certificate of analysis; how to check both is described in check your product. We ship within Poland and abroad. Outside Poland shipping costs 30 EUR paid in advance or 80 EUR cash on delivery, the same for every country: shipping and payments.
