DES(1-3) IGF-1, 1 mg. DES(1-3) IGF-1 is a truncated form of insulin-like growth factor 1, missing the first three amino acids, which lowers its affinity for binding proteins.

What is in this vial

Both brands of DES(1-3) IGF-1 here come in the same 1 mg vial, so the choice between them is a choice of manufacturer and price, not of quantity. The powder has no concentration of its own: it is set when you add the water. This vial with 1 ml of bacteriostatic water gives 1 mg per millilitre, and with twice that volume, half as much.

The conversion of an amount into insulin syringe units is worked through in the guide on syringe units, and the rules that change once the powder is dissolved are in storage.

Bio-Peptide as the manufacturer

Bio-Peptide has the widest catalogue of the three brands we stock: it is the only one supplying glutathione, NAD+, GHK-Cu, MOTS-C, SLU-PP-332 and semaglutide, so an order from this manufacturer can usually be filled from one supplier. Every vial carries a code under the hologram and a batch certificate, and how to check both is described on the verification page.

What the evidence says

There are no published human trials of this molecule for muscle applications and no established human dose. What is known comes from animal and cell work. The full account, with the sources and the limits, is on the DES(1-3) IGF-1 page, and the background in the guide on IGF-1 LR3 and DES(1-3) IGF-1.

We publish no dosing schedules. Sold as research material, not as a medicine.

Only two brands fill DES(1-3) IGF-1 here, and Nouveaux Ltd. is not one of them. Bio-Peptide also supplies IGF-1 LR3, so the short-acting and the long-acting modification of the same molecule can be bought from one producer.

Concentration in this vial

Water added Concentration Per unit on a U-100 syringe
1 ml 1 mg/ml 10 mcg
2 ml 0.5 mg/ml 5 mcg
5 ml 0.2 mg/ml 2 mcg

The table is arithmetic and nothing else: it converts the 1 mg in this vial into the concentration you get for a chosen volume of bacteriostatic water. It is not a dosing recommendation, and we publish none.

The same compound is sold here in one other version: Genheal, 1 mg. The molecule is identical in each; what differs is the manufacturer. Both hold the same amount, so the choice here is the manufacturer and its batch certificate, not the size.

Also from Bio-Peptide in this group

Within Muscle peptides, Bio-Peptide also supplies ACE-031 10 mg, Follistatin 344 1 mg and IGF-1 LR3 1 mg.

What the name says

The prefix des in chemical naming means that something is missing, and the numbers in brackets show which amino acid residues are absent. DES(1-3) IGF-1 is therefore the IGF-1 molecule without the first three amino acids of its chain; the rest stays unchanged. The whole point of such modifications in this family is to change how the molecule binds to the carrier proteins circulating in the blood: natural IGF-1 is captured by them, and the modified variants are meant to be captured less.

What we can say honestly: comparisons of potency between IGF-1 variants, easy to find in sales copy, come from cell culture tests, not from clinical trials.

What this group of molecules targets

Once bound to its receptor, IGF-1 switches on the PI3K, Akt and mTOR pathway. It increases muscle protein synthesis, slows protein breakdown by blocking FOXO proteins and stimulates satellite cells. That describes how the natural growth factor works in the body, not the result of giving its analogue from outside, and the difference runs through this whole product group.

Two variants in our range

Feature DES(1-3) IGF-1 IGF-1 LR3
What was changed The first three amino acids of the chain removed A change that limits binding to carrier proteins
Vial content 1 mg 1 mg
Syringe unit after dissolving in 1 ml 10 mcg 10 mcg

Two risks are listed for molecules aimed at the IGF-1 axis: hypoglycaemia, a drop in blood sugar, and suppression of the body's own growth hormone and IGF-1 axis through feedback in the hypothalamus and pituitary, described in animals. None of the molecules in this group is approved for building muscle or improving sports performance.

Preparation and storage

The Bio-Peptide box holds one 1 ml solvent ampoule. Dissolved in that millilitre, the vial gives 1000 mcg per millilitre, or 10 mcg per insulin syringe unit. Your own bacteriostatic water lets you go lower: 2 ml gives 500 mcg per millilitre and a finer scale on the syringe. Add the liquid slowly down the inside wall of the vial and do not shake it. Keep the solution in the fridge at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, away from light.

Who this vial is for

You are interested in the variant without the first three amino acids of the chain: this is the vial. You want the variant designed to stay in its active form for longer: take IGF-1 LR3. The same content is also sold by Genheal; the choice between the two is the manufacturer of the powder, not the dose or the form.

DES(1-3) IGF-1 in rat studies

DES(1-3) IGF-1 is IGF-1 without its first three amino acids, which hardly binds to the IGF binding proteins. In muscle cells it acted about 7 times more strongly than ordinary IGF-1. Two 1991 studies tested what this means in living animals under difficult conditions.

Study Model Result
Tomas et al., Biochemical Journal 1991 diabetic rats, infusion for 7 days weight gain, nitrogen retention and muscle protein synthesis at about 70 percent of the effect of insulin, against about 30 percent with ordinary IGF-1
Lemmey et al., American Journal of Physiology 1991 rats after removal of 80 percent of the intestine, 7 days weight gain of 20.8 g against 14.0 g without treatment, nitrogen balance of 217 against 153 mg per day

In the first study, DES(1-3) IGF-1 at the same dose acted clearly more strongly than ordinary IGF-1. Growth hormone given in the same model did not work at all. The IGF peptides increased protein building, but unlike insulin they did not hold back its breakdown.

In the second study, DES(1-3) IGF-1 gave a similar weight gain and nitrogen balance to ordinary IGF-1 at a 2.5 times higher dose. Nitrogen balance shows whether the body is building or losing protein, so a higher result means more protein rebuilt.

Both studies concern rats in a state of illness, not healthy animals or humans. No human studies of DES(1-3) IGF-1 have been published, and the peptide is on the WADA list in group S2. A comparison with IGF-1 LR3 is in the guide IGF-1 LR3 and DES(1-3) IGF-1.

Questions

How much DES(1-3) IGF-1 is in this vial?

1 mg of lyophilised powder from Bio-Peptide, in one vial.

What concentration does 2 ml of water give?

0.5 mg per millilitre, which is 5 mcg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe. Other volumes are in the table above.

Is this the same molecule as the Genheal vial?

Yes. DES(1-3) IGF-1 is the same compound in every vial here, and both hold 1 mg. What differs is the manufacturer and the batch certificate that comes with it.
