What is in this vial
It is the smaller of the Follistatin 344 vials sold here, which means less substance standing in solution at a time. The powder has no concentration of its own: it is set when you add the water. This vial with 1 ml of bacteriostatic water gives 1 mg per millilitre, and with twice that volume, half as much.
The conversion of an amount into insulin syringe units is worked through in the guide on syringe units, and the rules that change once the powder is dissolved are in storage.
Bio-Peptide as the manufacturer
Bio-Peptide has the widest catalogue of the three brands we stock: it is the only one supplying glutathione, NAD+, GHK-Cu, MOTS-C, SLU-PP-332 and semaglutide, so an order from this manufacturer can usually be filled from one supplier. Every vial carries a code under the hologram and a batch certificate, and how to check both is described on the verification page.
What the evidence says
The striking pictures used in advertising come from mice bred without the myostatin gene. For follistatin itself there are no randomised human trials on muscle mass. The full account, with the sources and the limits, is on the Follistatin 344 page, and the background in the guide on follistatin 344 and ACE-031.
We publish no dosing schedules. Sold as research material, not as a medicine.
Follistatin 344 is a 344 amino acid protein, and that length is why a single milligram costs about eleven times what a milligram of BPC-157 does. Bio-Peptide fills the standard 1 mg vial; the 2 mg version comes only from Nouveaux Ltd.
Concentration in this vial
| Water added | Concentration | Per unit on a U-100 syringe |
|---|---|---|
| 1 ml | 1 mg/ml | 10 mcg |
| 2 ml | 0.5 mg/ml | 5 mcg |
| 5 ml | 0.2 mg/ml | 2 mcg |
The table is arithmetic and nothing else: it converts the 1 mg in this vial into the concentration you get for a chosen volume of bacteriostatic water. It is not a dosing recommendation, and we publish none.
This vial next to the other Follistatin 344 vials
The same compound is sold here in two other versions: Genheal, 1 mg and Nouveaux Ltd., 2 mg. The molecule is identical in each; what differs is the manufacturer and the amount in the vial. This is the smallest of the 3, so less substance stands in solution at a time.
Also from Bio-Peptide in this group
Within Muscle peptides, Bio-Peptide also supplies ACE-031 10 mg, DES(1-3) IGF-1 1 mg and IGF-1 LR3 1 mg.
The history of the clinical trials
ACE-031 was studied in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, where blocking myostatin was meant to support muscle growth and repair. Acceleron Pharma and Shire halted those trials on 21 April 2011, and on 2 May 2013 they closed the whole programme without resuming it. The reason was safety: some participants had nose and gum bleeding and small dilated blood vessels in the skin, which resolved after stopping. They were linked to blocking BMP9 and BMP10 signals through the activin receptor, which matter for normal blood vessel function.
For a buyer this means the mechanism was tested in clinical conditions and showed both an effect on muscle and an unexpected side effect. We do not write that ACE-031 builds muscle in a proven and safe way: for healthy people there are no clinical data confirming it.
ACE-031 and follistatin 344
| Feature | ACE-031 (ACVR2B) | Follistatin 344 |
|---|---|---|
| Type of molecule | Fusion protein with the activin receptor | Protein binding TGF-beta ligands |
| How it works | Decoy receptor capturing myostatin | Binds myostatin and related ligands |
| Human studies | Programme closed in 2013 on safety grounds | No randomised trials for muscle gain |
What follistatin does
Myostatin, also labelled GDF-8, is a protein of the TGF-beta superfamily that restrains the growth of skeletal muscle. Follistatin is a secreted protein that binds ligands of that superfamily, myostatin among them, and so lifts that restraint. The number 344 in the name refers to one of the variants of the molecule.
The second molecule described as a myostatin blocker, ACE-031, reaches the same target by a different route: it works as a decoy receptor and captures these molecules before they reach muscle cells. The difference is in the way of binding, not in the goal.
The state of knowledge, without embellishment
There are no randomised human trials of follistatin 344 for muscle gain. The results that circulate in advertising come from mice without the myostatin gene, and those animals have a different muscle physiology from people with a normal gene, so the figures cannot be carried over to humans. The only broader clinical programme for a myostatin blocker, run for ACE-031, was closed because of side effects. Follistatin 344 is not approved for any indication, and its long-term safety in humans has not been established.
Two ampoules, a choice of concentration
The Bio-Peptide box holds two 1 ml solvent ampoules. One milligram of protein dissolved in 1 ml gives 1000 mcg per millilitre, or 10 mcg per insulin syringe unit. The same milligram in 2 ml gives 500 mcg per millilitre and 5 mcg per unit. With a substance measured in micrograms, a lower concentration means a smaller measuring error.
Decide on the volume first: one ampoule or both. Add the liquid slowly, aiming the stream at the wall of the vial, then do not shake it; set the vial down and wait for the powder to dissolve on its own. Keep the solution in the fridge at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.
Who this vial is for
You want follistatin 344 and a fine scale on the syringe: two ampoules give you 5 mcg per unit. The vial holds the same as the Genheal version, which comes with one ampoule. You want a larger pack with nothing to prepare: the Nouveaux Ltd. cartridge holds 2 mg.
Where follistatin began: studies in mice
The first evidence of follistatin's effect came from the work of Se-Jin Lee's team at Johns Hopkins University. Later studies checked how long the effect lasts and whether it works in older animals.
| Study | Model | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Lee and McPherron, 2001 | mice with a lot of follistatin in their muscles | muscle mass like that of mice lacking the myostatin gene |
| Lee, 2007 | mice without myostatin with extra follistatin | about 4 times more muscle than ordinary mice |
| Haidet et al., 2008 | a single dose of the gene, healthy and dystrophic mice | greater muscle mass and strength for over 2 years |
The 2007 result showed something important for understanding this molecule. Mice without myostatin already had large muscles, and extra follistatin made them larger still. So follistatin binds more than myostatin alone and also acts on other brakes on muscle growth.
The 2008 study answered the question of age. Muscle mass and strength grew for practically the rest of the animals' lives, even when the gene was given at an older age. The effectiveness of other ways of blocking myostatin depended on the age at which they were started.
In these studies the mice received a gene that itself made follistatin over a long time, or were bred with such a gene. The vial contains the ready-made protein. Studies in humans, carried out in patients with muscle diseases, are described in the guide Follistatin 344 and ACE-031: myostatin blockers.

Questions
How much Follistatin 344 is in this vial?
1 mg of lyophilised powder from Bio-Peptide, in one vial.
What concentration does 2 ml of water give?
0.5 mg per millilitre, which is 5 mcg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe. Other volumes are in the table above.
Is this the same molecule as the Genheal vial?
Yes. Follistatin 344 is the same compound in every vial here, and both hold 1 mg. What differs is the manufacturer and the batch certificate that comes with it.
