What is in the vial

What animal studies showed
Work published in Cell Metabolism in 2015 described MOTS-c inhibiting the folate cycle and de novo purine synthesis, leading to AICAR accumulation and activation of AMPK, with skeletal muscle as the main target organ. In mice on a high-fat diet, researchers described strong AMPK activation and increased expression of the GLUT4 glucose transporter in muscle.
Reported effects in animals: faster glucose clearance, improved whole-body insulin sensitivity, and prevention of age-related and diet-induced insulin resistance and of diet-induced obesity.
What human data exist
Observational, not interventional. Circulating MOTS-c concentration correlates with markers of insulin resistance and obesity, including body mass index, waist circumference, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR and HbA1c. Clinical trials testing MOTS-c as an intervention are scarce or absent, so we do not write that it improves insulin sensitivity in people. It does so in mice.
A correlation of that kind cannot say which way the arrow points. Lower MOTS-c in people with insulin resistance is equally consistent with the peptide being a cause, a consequence or a bystander, and the studies published so far cannot separate those.
