What is in this vial
It is the smaller of the Sermorelin vials sold here, which means less substance standing in solution at a time. The powder has no concentration of its own: it is set when you add the water. This vial with 2 ml of bacteriostatic water gives 2.5 mg per millilitre, and with twice that volume, half as much.

What the evidence says
It was approved in the United States as Geref in 1990 and 1997, and the approval was withdrawn in 2009 for commercial reasons, not for safety or effectiveness. Sermorelin is the one molecule in the growth hormone group that once held a full drug approval, as Geref, withdrawn in 2009 for commercial reasons. Bio-Peptide fills it in 5 mg, and the same brand supplies Mod GRF 1-29, the modified version of the same fragment.

What sermorelin is
Sermorelin is a GHRH analogue, an analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone. Its other name, GRF 1-29, points to the opening section of that molecule. It belongs to the same group as CJC-1295, Mod GRF 1-29 and tesamorelin, not to the secretagogues acting through the ghrelin receptor such as GHRP-2, GHRP-6 or ipamorelin. The two groups stimulate the pituitary through two different receptors, which is why they are put together rather than used instead of each other.
The history of Geref, confirmed in an FDA document
Sermorelin had full registration as a medicine in the United States, under two separate applications for different indications.

EMD Serono notified the agency in July 2008 that it had stopped making the diagnostic form, and in December 2008 that it was withdrawing the treatment forms. Withdrawal of approval for both applications was announced in May 2009, effective 18 June that year. In a document dated 4 March 2013 the agency stated plainly that Geref was not withdrawn for reasons of safety or effectiveness; the reason was commercial, as recombinant growth hormone took over the market.
Where the line runs
The registration history concerns the medicine Geref, not this vial. Research material contains the same substance but has no established dose, batch documentation or the quality control required of a medicinal product. So we do not write that you are buying a medicine that was once registered. You are buying a substance that had registration in the form of a medicine, and that is a different sentence.

You want sermorelin in a classic vial with the solvent in the same box: Bio-Peptide adds two ampoules of bacteriostatic water. You are interested in a molecule with a documented registration history: sermorelin is one of the few in this category with one. You need more substance in one pack: the Nouveaux Ltd. 10 mg version holds twice as much.
16 weeks in women and men over 55
The longest study of a sermorelin analogue in older people was carried out by a team at the University of California in La Jolla. The results appeared in 1997 in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Nine men and ten women aged 55 to 71 received placebo for 4 weeks and then an injection every evening for 16 weeks. The study used a sermorelin equivalent with one amino acid replaced by norleucine.

Growth hormone rose as soon as 10 minutes after the injection, and the pulse lasted about 2 hours. The effect did not weaken throughout the study. IGF-1 rose by 28 percent on average and stayed high for 12 weeks. The only side effect was a temporary rise in blood fats, which resolved by the end of the study.
Immunity in the same group
The same team examined the immune system in the same people. After 16 weeks, the number of B lymphocytes rose by 30 percent, and their response to stimulation by 50 percent. T lymphocytes responded 50 percent more strongly. The changes appeared in both sexes, without side effects.
