What studies of the modified version showed
Most data on this section of growth hormone come from research on AOD9604. It is a modified version of fragment 176-191, developed around the turn of the century as a candidate anti-obesity drug. Its results show what this part of the molecule does with fat.

The row about sugar matters in practice. In the same study, full growth hormone raised blood sugar and reduced insulin secretion. The fragment did not, because it does not act through the growth hormone receptor. The last row shows the route it takes: through beta-3 receptors in fat tissue, which are linked to fat breakdown.
In humans, AOD9604 went through clinical trials, but it missed the main endpoint of its phase 2b trial, and its development was stopped in 2007.
